So, I stepped away for a few months to work on other things in life, but I'm back and I think I'm better than ever.

I would like ya'll to judge this song I just finished, in EVERY aspect.

The things I want to change? I need to tune the "Watcha gonna do" part down a bit, and line it up better because it is off beat.

Other then that, what do I need to do?

I did the beat, I rapped first, I did the Chorus(aka the loud part) and my buddy Primary was the 2nd verse and D-Shawn was the 3rd.

SERIOUS. What do ya'll think? The next one we're working on isn't going to be such a mess like this one is...

Fyre? Noddy? KT? Where ya'll at for my feedback?

Compared to the shit I brought to the table a few months back, I think it's hot!

Oh yeah, forgot the important part.

lol whats up homie I'm on vacation right now, and just started being active on here a little, I'll have to say it's definitely way better than what you first started off with a while ago. I do think you need to tweak the chorus. Also the stereo image is kind of too wide imo, vocals should be a little more centered than the hook. I like the beat, it needs to be mixed a tad bit louder. Overall good work playa! Keep at it :) you got it.

Yeah, the whole song over-all is a huge mess. I appreciate the comment finally!

The Chorus does suck, but my mic is pissing me off, It's only recording into the Left channel. It's a USB Condensor so it's not like it's not pushed in all the way or some shit.

Other then that, I record each part twice, channel it to the left and the right to even it out, and double it over.

The beat is sick as hell, I loved making it. It's simple, but it fits.

Lots needs to be done on it.

So, instead of showing that one, I was gonna wait til my buddy could drop his verse on this other one we are workin' on... but i think it's 100% better than that one..

So hit up http://www.soundclick.com/strictproductions AGAIN and check out Karma(Feat. Benjamin & Primary)

Thanks bro!

It sounds like on your program you are recording in stereo. The thing is, Microphones are Mono instruments always will be.. Even on "Stereo" mics which include 2 microphones on 1 device. The way mic's are is noise induces small vibrations on a thin film which is then turned into an electric current (take apart a dynamic mic and you can see it under the foam - condensors are the same thing except the signal is charged), they can't split that film to make 2 seperate vibrations, impossible.. Anyways lol, software can make it stereo, OR you change on the track to Mono, and you should be good. It'll send mono center.. if you do stereo on the track, it'll send left signal mono, right mono signal..

Nice, more than I was expecting for a response. Lol.

That makes sense though. I'll try it on a Mono setting and see if it's better.

What about the Karma song? Comparison? 100% better I think....

Thanks bro, you be mad knowledgeable.

oo I like the concept & feeling of the track. You got good potential, kept to the subject of the track. Second verse is mixed better than the first and almost there. I can see a singer on there blowin' out of control. I like this track. I'm going through some problems with my girl right and I can str8 up relate to the song, something that is necessary. Gotta make music listeners can relate too, right? Ill track, when is it going to be finished? Whats going on there next? I like where your style is going.. Of course I'm from the WILD WEST! lol

The blank spot there with no verse or anything, there is going to be a Singing/Rap verse 8 bars, with the synth. and then when the flute busts in again there is going to be a wicked rap line, another 8 bars, with the outro.

What do you mean blowin' out of control? Too loud?

First verse is me, does it need to be quieter?

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I been workin' hard on it.

Lemme know.

I mean like "singing his ass off" basically lol. like the end of Rollin' Around (www.myspace.com/mindsetmusicgroup) myspace quality isn't all that great.
http://www.filedropper.com/01track1_1 better quality
The levels between the rappers do need to be a little bit eq'd to sound more evenly in volume. I would say turn the second rapper up 3dB, and you down 4 or 5dB. What are you using as your recording program again? Some adlibs could help the track out too.

Ahh, that singer is ME and my buddy BENJAMIN!

Uhm, alright. Yeah. I thought mine was a little loud but not much. His is super low. I'll even that out.

Im using Audacity... Adlibs as in? and where?

Bare that I am listening on my notebook with some regular Altec Lansing closed back headphones.. Not top notch so I'm not getting 100% perfect representation of any tracks like I would on at least some powered speakers to make a better judgement.

Ahh, see I'm bumpin it on my Skullcandy Skullcrusher Noise cancellation headphones with subwoofer built in. sounds sick as hell. Although the 2nd verse is really quiet.. I'll bring that up and lower mine tomorrow when I get more time.. Gonna hopefully get Ben on a track of his own. That boy can sing!

I can sing too,, just not as good.

I'm just going to add the fact that I'm recording in an open Living Room with fans going 24/7, no pop filter, just open mic. So considering all that? I think the vocals sounded pretty good.

P.S. - That Rollin' Around song is tight.

Well go get a pop filter, it's gotta be the cheapest thing you could get.

And I didn't read what Mindset said cuz...it was a lot so I dunno if I'm repeating, but the vocals don't seem in your face enough. It sounds way too much like it's a homerecording - which it is, I mean I do to, but I record in an open room (bedroom) as well, just do everything you can to increase vocal quality.

You can't totally fix room errors, but you can minimize them by turning everything off, and doing your best to stop bouncing sounds, and then miking the vocal - you'll want to come closer in proximity to the mike's pickup pattern. Which, then the pop filter would come in handy cause you'll be closer to the mic.. Understand that even though its an imperfect room, chances are it's not as bad as you think because of the characteristics of human voice.. meaning, humans voice (60hz to 1.5Khz) does not have enough power to it for it to matter as much as a 1000w subwoofer.. that doesn't mean don't worry about it. It lets you know that voice won't bounce as much as "XYZ" thinks and it also means it's controllable..

So throw some blankets around, face a wall with more furniture, you know. and turn the recording level down, and get closer to the mic.

Take for instance, Destiny's Child (i really can't remember the song) song off Writings On The Wall was recorded & tracked out in a Hilton suite.
I've done a few songs in hotel rooms as well.

Alright. I'll see what I can do to change the quality. I'll re-do it. usually I'd throw a blanket over my head and mic, but I lose my breath in there cus it's such a heavy blanket lol.

I'm going to try and get a pop filter, but I don't even have a mic stand or a shock mount, my ex took it with her when she bailed on me, cus it was in her sax-case .. so now I gotta get that shit again... so a pop filter is pointless without the stand, don't they clip to the stand itself?

However, I'll see what I can do about the vocals. Any suggestions on making it more "IN YOUR FACE?" aside from screaming? hahah

Alright, I'll do that. I been doin' it wrong. I had my mic 3/4's the way up and I'd just lay it on the table and spit. lol.

I'll have to try tuning it down and actually holding it and gettn' my vocals in there. I gotta try with the mono track as well, new things every day I learn!

I appreciate all ya'll, for real.

I've improved a lot and even _I_ admit it. But the more I can improve, the better. I'm more into the beat side of thing, but I wanna learn how to work with artists in the production scene.

Thanks again,

Yeah they usually have a clamp/clip that goes on the stand...wait how are you recording without a stand? I hope you're not like holding a conderser mic in your hand haha

As for the more "in your face" thing...obviously there's no one way to do it but I have a hunch you should 1) Do what mindset said about recording closer and 2) Playing around with compression

Nah I'm not holding it. It's usually angled on the desk and I just stand above it.

Alright, I'll mess with compression and re-recording it. I'm lacking ambition today since it's a relaxation day. But, I'll get it done for sure.

Thanks again bro, preciate it.

I peeped them both and I agree with most of what Mindset said. (Actually, I learned thing or two:))

That karma track sounds like you needed Em to come through and hop on a verse LOL

Nah, but I'm diggin them both!!!!
