Almost lost my Hearing!! Effin firebox

Bought new studio monitors (powered)
Hooked them up to a new Firebox.

Amazing sound.
Then I restarted my Mac Pro.
And experienced the loudest feedback type noise I've ever heard in my life. My hands were moving trying to unplug something but I was totally lost and confused. 12 seconds of pain.

So do I just turn off my speakers every time I shut down?
Also I noticed the firebox gets a little warm, do I unplug the firewire once a day? There's no on/off button.

Also there was a condenser mic plugged into the firebox so assuming that had something to do with it.

When turned back on, it sounds like it defaulted to a state with the mis on or something. You should be able to stage how you turn everything on and off, but as an extra measure of protection, I use a Level Pilot. http://www.tcelectronic.com/LevelPilot.asp
I used to have an EMU 1820 and sometimes it would start at high volume so this was my way of avoiding forgetting to turn things down. The Level Pilot ain't cheap (about $100) but works great, is completely balanced and operates very smooth with no noise.

On my homemade passive control center I put a $3 toggle switch that kills all the sound.
