Problem is direct outs are dry. Set up is. 8 Mike In's. insert 8 to and from presonus 8 channel compressor. 8 direct outs to motu 8 channel interface. To Logic 8. 8 tracks. Miking drums by the way. At logic I don't here EQ'S, Effects, The compressor, And channel faders or master faders do nothing. The only thing that works is the gain. Please tell Me i don't have to open it up and move jumpers. If so please how. Channels 1-8 only. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance !! Bill

That is really what you want. You want the raw track. You don't want to process the signal any on the way in because it's past the point of no return.

To use your 8 channel compressor I would suggest bussing out 8 channels from the motu back to your mixer through digital to analog conversion. This way you will get the most out of your mixer by tracking though the direct outs and also analog "mixing" to use your outboard electronics.

The question I have is whether you really need 8 separate channels of compression. Ddo you really need to set compression every channel of your drums separately?

If not, then bussing to aux out(s) would make sense.

Of course recording dry and compressing in post like gcapel said make a lot of sense too.

If you absolutely want to compress on recording and run 8 discrete channels of compression, or don't have 8 channels of D/A to do the post thing, then what you might to do is daisy chain the direct outs to the compressor (instead of the inserts), then run the outs of the compressor to the interface.

You'll still lose the faders on the mixer for anything but monitoring, but you'll have three more gain stages (compressor chanels in, compressor channels out and interface in) where you can set the proper levels throughoutt and to your DAW.

I guess my line of thinking was 1-8 channels of the allen and heath wet and 9-16 dry as far as the direct outs go. The Manuel is not clear when I open this thing up is it one jumper for all 16 channels direct out pre to post or does each channel have its own jumper. Yea I like having control over each mike as far as compression. I have the motu 896 8 channel interface. This would just be one more option. What if I got a killer sound from the set up. Just crazy glue the knobs and move on ;) If I want to bypass that just move the cables over to 9 thru 16. What do you think

Sorry My Wife interrupted Me. Its there job. I understand what you guys are saying I figured I have the room for this option why not. I'll never use all 16 channels of the board at one time. 1/2 processed 1/2 not. or I can go straight to the moto. Am I out of my mind ? If not the big question is one jumper for all 16 channels pre to post or one jumper for each channel. Before I take it out of the rack and undo all the cables. Thanks for your input. Bill
