All the connections are confusing me

Hey, I'm brand new to this board, I need major help with my setup.

I have a vintage Tangent 8-track analog mixer that I run everything through, and I want to run it into my Soundblaster Live. From the Soundblaster card, I run a 1/8 inch to 2 RCA plugs into a stereo with AUX in. I have no idea the details of the connection, but it works.

I've been trying to run the signal from the mixer into the card, but I'm 1) not sure which output to use, and 2) getting a response (the sound is coming out of my speakers, so I know it's there) but isn't being picked up in my recording program (Samplitude or Cool Edit Pro).

I am not sure if maybe it's a problem with the mixer. I am running a 1/4 inch cable with 1/8 adapter into the line in in my card. I have tried all the outputs on the mixer, but none seem to work. They are as follows:

AUX Right
AUX Left
Phones

Output Left
Output Right
Output Moniter

None of these seem to be working correctly. As stated before, the sound is going through the speakers that are connected to the Soundblaster, but no signal is being shown as being picked up in any sound program.

Please help, I really want to get into better quality recording, and this failure has been a major disappointment.

Thanks!

If you can hear it, it's making the trip into the box. You have to tell the computer where to look for signal. You do this from two places. Go to your Windows mixer (click on the speaker icon) and make sure the "Line IN" is checked off and nothing else. Then in your recording program direct it to your sound card.
