I started this one today for some locals. We got it all tracked and I'm taking a few mins before bed to do a rough mix. Ill get back to it in a day or two after I have taken a rest from it. Any suggestions on what I have so far?
thanks for the listen....

Sounding pretty good for a rough mix. Drums are pretty heavy. Guitar tone is cool. Vocals are cool, but seem to be stepping on the guitars or something in this mix. I think once you get them to sit well, this will be sweet. Also, could probably use a bit of a bump in the low end, at least the kick drum. I hear it just fine, but it could use a little more beef, In my opinion. Very good start though.

thanks for the review man....you're probably right about all the "stepping on" going on....at this point I have done very little EQ'ing. Since I have listened to the song for the last 8 hours Im just not sure if Im hearing everything just right. I just set the levels quickly, and added some of my fav verb settings to drums so I could give them something to take home with them...anyone else???

The drums sound a bix boxy because of the way they're tuned. The guitars are heavy as hell and I love it. Try shaving off everything under 150 Hz though to make more room for everything else in the mix.

Keep the metal coming.

cool singer! I like the tune.. "all of my cuts, all of my cuts" :) I like that..

recording is a little rough.. the drums sound very roomy.. a few little timing things.. guitars are a little fizzy sounding.. drum kit could be better balanced.. needs some mix work but it's a cool song though!

Like everyone else I think you have something with a little cleaning up hear and there. I personally don't like the guitar sound to much...sounds like GodSmack....might be becuase of they way there tune.....what was the guitar rig setup?

Not too keen on the ring off the snare but thats the fault of whoever tuned it, and maybe this is what they are looking for. I think it sound a little boomy for some reason, maybe the snare could be a little more crisp. I suggest taking the snare down at 240Hz, and up somewhere between 1 and 2.5KHz. Also try to find the frequency of the ring, and take that down (If it's not what you/they are looking for). Maybe take out some of the kick drum at between 100Hz and 250Hz, and add some at 2.5KHz for slightly more slap, to bring it out. I think everything else sounds good. Very nice :D

Mesa triple rectifier. He didnt bring his cab, He played it through my fender 2 X 12 which has celestion greenbacks.

And as for everyone else...you are all right... :p The clip I posted was nothing more than a mix where I half assed set the levels and did a little panning to give them something to take home with them that night. I worked on it a little today and I will a little more before bed and...not saying it will be PERFECT....but it will be better...at least I hope.... :p

thanks for the comments and ill try to post an updated version in a few hours...

k...here is the latest version. Please give it a listen and let me know what you think. The original link still points to the rough mix for comparison...

Vocals seem to sit better. I don't know...seems pretty good to me. It's heavy, but not distorting. Not overly bass heavy. Seems like everything is sitting pretty decent right now. I hear the drums pretty well, good guitar tone, and the vocals are pretty cool. Bass guitar seems hidden though. Could be my system, but usually it lets the bass get pretty loud. Cool song.

Thanks for the comments Ed. I always have to be careful with the bass....I dont have a sub and I tend to over do it with the bass if im not careful. I usually have trouble getting bass just right...Ill mix..then drive around the block to check it in the car...and back and forth...mostly because of bass troubles....

I worked a lot on the snare...gave it more high end pop and EQ'd out the ringing as mentioned before. also took Pandamonk's advice on the kick and Im liking it now...added a little reverb to the toms and pulled the lows out of them a little...I feel better about it...

Listening on computer speakers with a sub.

Getting quite a bit of low end from the kick. Bass is there in spots, pretty lost in others. Otherwise sounds pretty good.

since this is a metal tune....if u have the bass drum on a sep. track give it some compression if u haven't already done it. it seems a little to bassy and muffled for metal....I really like the song by the way tho...guitars r great

Just a tiny bit more B-drum and you will have a solid mix.

I like the sound, and you fixed that snare (Thank You!)

..it's got that good'old early Sepultura sound to it.

The vocals remind me little bit of Wendy O Williams (R.I.P) The thing that i liked with the vocals is that it is not hold back, it´s a lot of "here I am, listen to me or I kick your butt" that´s important with this type of music, my opinion. The snardrum sounds little to low, I would like to have some more punch in it, around 1:43 the snare sounded better.

And yeah it´s METAL, and I like it heavy.
Ride on

ok...this is probably what Im gonna call finished....unless you guys rip it up too bad... :p

again, the earlier links will still work so you can compair.

Personally, I like it. Take it for what it's worth, just one listener, but nice tune. I listened to the second mix, and this again. The third one seems to have a bit more depth to it. Only slightly better than the second, as it was good also, but a bit more full. I'm not sure if some parts have a bit too much low end. It could be at my end, so don't take it for much. Something just seemed to be shaking here.

See if anyone else notices. If not, disregard that.
