All mixed up!

Just bought a very nice Fostex R8 and was wondering in home studio land if anyone owns one of these models or other 8 track what mixer they were using if any and why they chose their particular model. I will be looking to mix 8 tracks down into a Revox A77 then into my daw eventually. I am looking at Mackie VLZ4 1402 but wondering if I should go up to 16 but the jump in cost is quite considerable for two extra channels.

This tape recorder records and plays back 2 tracks (if you want a good sound, don't save the tape by creating 4 roads). This unit creates a quality studio recording even at 9th speed.
