what would be the reason to buy HD????

  • Up to 96 i/o's at up to 192kHz
  • Running plugins during tracking with negligible latency
  • VCAs
  • Use of ICON (In professional environments)

Those are just a handful of reasons, there are dozens more.

Also be aware that although many manufactures trumpet delay compensation some of the protocols are poorly (at best) implemented. I suspect if you told many Pro Tools LE users that it has delay compensation (even though it doesn't) that would be enough to quell the worries.

You've hit the nail on the head there ;)

When Pro Tools LE boasts delay compensation it'll be properly implemented. Until then, use workarounds - which definitely work ;)

can't argue with that..

i use a p35ds4 board with 8gb ddr 1066, and a q9550 @ 3.4ghz...

set latency to 32ms, and have NOOOO problems whatsoever..

the only time i'd ever see a benefit from using hd (and i use it regularly elsewhere) is if i'm bussing tracks to compress them, and i get the delay going on :(....ends up with a chorusing sound (booo)

it's a bit of hassle,,but i've started just putting a long time adjuster on every track at the start of a session,,, and subtracting delay from tracks that have high delay plugins...

If you haven't done so already, I suggest making a template for your sessions as a starting point.
