Alessis QS6 Keyboard

I recently acquired a Alesis QS6 keyboard off Ebay. Everything seems to work fine sonically. However, half of the display screen is very light, and I can hardly read it. I was wondering how I could remedy this, or get it fixed somehow. Also, if you guys (obviously of much more knowledge than me) could offer me tips on getting into keyboards, what's unique about the one I got, etc, that would be appreciated.

Make sure to give the guy who sold it a call and ask for a rebate...otherwise give him some crappy feedback, for our sake.
 
There may be a parameter for adjustment of light in the display, I dont remember. I have a qs8 and for the money i am very happy with it.
What kind of tips are you looking for?

Could you clarify what you mean by "getting into keyboards"?

What's unique about the one you have is that it's a great value for the money. It's equal or superior to synths twice it's price, and they seem to be pretty durable. The polyphony was very good for its day (64 voices), and it works very well as a workstation (as long as you have a sequencer). You can check my web page for samples -- my entire last album was done on a QS6.

Soundwise, it's your basic wavetable synth like most digital synths from the last 12 years. The QCards add some pretty impressive sounds though. I have the EuroDance QCard and I love it.

There are some things I don't like about it -- mainly the frelled up effects processing (very hard to get what you want).

I'm very happy with my QS6. The only reason I'd get rid of it would be to get a QS8.2, or to get a MIDI master controller in which case I'd also get a QSR to replace it with.
 
I have a QS8 which is a great controller. The sounds are basic.... you won't get any fancy stuff, and there is no resonance on the filters, so really good emulations of analog synth stuff is difficult. The sounds mix well with other synths (in the music I do) and you can get some soundcards for it that are pretty cool If you want synth sounds, I have been impressed by the synth card and also the orchestral card..... You can also dump samples into a card using the free soundbridge software that Alesis used to distribute with the synth. I like mine!
