Alesis' Older Mixers

How good, or bad, are Alesis mixers? Specifically, the 1622 or the Studio 32 or 24? I have been offered a 1622 for $300 (Canadian), and Studio 24 for $250. I am concerned with reliability and/or service and spare parts availablity. I like the 1622, but the huge quantity of switches are a concern. I think the Studio 32 oe 24 are newer, are they any better than the 1622? Do any of these mixers compare to Mackies regarding sound quality?

Mixer will be used for recording a 3-4 piece gypsy jazz/swing band (Minimum 12 channels required, 2 per guitar (2 guitars), 2-3 for stand up bass, 4 vocal mics, and a 2 channels for violin or sax), with the possibility of being played live sometimes.

Avoid those completely. Bad cheap switches, noisy, scratchy pots, disappearing signals, crappy faders, should I go on?

My brother bought one new, and it did not last long. He now has a Mackie and is much happier.
 
Alesis makes good recorders and sometimes effects. Most of thier other stuff is crap.

Thanks for helping me avoid a mistake; I guess its back to either a Yamaha MG or a Mackie.
