Alesis Multimix 16 Firewire or something else for $600?

Well, I've been doing some thinking lately. Even though my studio won't be up for a while, I'm doing all the planning now during the summer so I don't have to later. The Multimix 16 Firewire looks really good and would do me well, but I only have 1 problem with it: 8 XLR mic inputs. I really want 10, but 8 might have to do. So are there any other mixers (yeah mixers, not like Firepods or anything that are just preamps) that have 10 XLR inputs and have firewire for $600? Are there any better firewire mixers than the Alesis that are $600 or less? I mean, the Alesis looks great and is a good price, and I'll probably end up getting it, but I would like more XLR and more than a 3-band EQ if possible.

Thanks. If the Alesis is the way to go (remember, $600 max) then just say so. I'm kinda thinking so, but hopefully someone will have other ideas.

I know it still has 8 XLR inputs, but what about the Phonic Helix Board 18 Firewire? It looks really good, and is only $460 compared to the $600 Alesis.

Anyone have experience with it, or opinions? I might delete this thread and make a Phonic Vs. Alesis thread later.

you could buy the alesis and buy a couple of behringer mic100 preamps to go with it to make you up to 10 tracks.
Theyre cheap and i hear they sound good:)

Yea, I think I'll end up doing that. I really like the M-Audio DMP-3 preamps though.

Now the question is should I get the Alesis or the Phonic?
