Simple answer.
It all depends on the price.
If you can get a Zoom R16 for less, then I'd go that route.
Other than that, looks like it gets great reviews.
Nice set up.

I have one (Multimix 16 USB 2.0) and use it for mixing and recording. Had it for 6 months with no issues....It's not the best quality but it works for my purposes...

I considered the Zoom R16, Alesis Multimix 16 and then the Tascam M-164UF came along on the market
1) Zoom R16 is only an 8 channel audio interface, and 16 bit, for that matter. The Alesis is 16, so are the Tascam models M164UF, US-2000 and US-1641 are also 16 channels and 24 bit audio (US series are rackmount, have SPDIF and MIDI)
2) Advantage the Zoom R16 if doing standalone recording (without a PC), but again limited to 8 tracks at once, and a maximum 16 in total. You could still export those tracks to a DAW and finish a project in a DAW. That could be nice.
3) Advantage any other "audio interface" with 16 inputs / channels and using a DAW. 16 tracks at once per session, with an unlimited number of total tracks.
4) Advantage the ZoomR16 as it is also a DAW Fader controller (technical name is ???? D'oh )

I went with the Tascam M-164UF. $525 Canadian. Other 2 Tascams and Zoom R16 were $400. It wasn't about Prices, just what "I" needed. A mixer AND an Audio Interface.
