Is the Alesis Midiverb 4 recommended by anyone? Having read reviews about the Alesis Quadraverb 2 and the Alesis Q20 I am a bit put off by the amount of programming required. I just want to have some good reverb and delay effects that are better than those built into my Zoom MRS 1044 multitrack recorder.

At this stage I don't want to spend £900 or so on a reverb/delay/effects unit, so what are the recommendations for other brands?

I don't mind spending up to £300 for a new unit, if something like a Midiverb 4 has a good track record (no pun intended) then around £200 saved by buying one of the many secondhand Midiverbs up for grabs can be spent on other items needed for my little studio.

What do you think guys?

IMO, the midiverb 4 is decent at best. I wouldn't use it for your main verb but it's good on things like snare drums, guitars and so on. To me it sounds kinda thin!

I will recommend it for a good piece to start with.

There are many parameters for adjustment and then you can save what you like to a user bank. There are chained effects, stereo, and mono effects too. When effects are chained together it cuts into the bit rate, so a singe mono will sound better than a stereo output with four chained effects.

I have found only on pre-set that is decent to use without modifying it. Seems to have a lot of stuff that I don't use, but everything is editable.

It's reliable and I think it sounds good. I thought I had a problem with my display lamps going out, but it only happened once and they haven't given me any trouble since. They're on right now.

Go to the Alesis site and read the manual for more info. It's in .pdf format. Probably the most bang for your buck reverb unit available.
