While Reading these forums I always hear about the mic pre's in the Mackies, Soundcraft, Alan & Heath and even the well liked Behringers, but I never hear about the Alesis boards and their Mic Pre's.

Are they just that bad ?
How are they compared to the Mackie pre's, or the others ?

Thanks
Pier

i had an alesis studio 32 and was really impressed with the pres. they were very quiet and transparent. i mainly used them when tracking drums cause i usually used 8 mics or so.

I could never get past the cheap construction and horrendous faders to even try the mic pres. So I honestly have no idea how good they are.

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of input on this subject. I guess its even sub-Behringer huh?

i definatly would not say sub behringer. at least they are consistent from channel to channel. i dont think that you would be dissapointed with them. obviously they are no neve or manley, but i was well pleased with them when i used the studio 32 board. i have since gotten a mackie 32 8 and some outboard focusrite pres. i would say that the alesis pretty close to the mackie. just my opinion though.

a quick note: i owned my board before alesis was bought out. i know there have been worries about alesis' quality since they were bought out.

Yo Pier:

How are YOU?

Nice to see you back on the site.

Take a check on the net and check out the Martinsound mic pres and the Grace Design 101. Pricy? Yes. Good? Very, very good.

But, I'm still using my ART mic pre. But, not for long. I have a Grace Design in the hopper.

Have you moved on to a digital recorder yet? Well, whatever, it's nice to hear from you.

I have both the 24 and the 32 and their pre's are simply average,
middle of the road accessories for basic line-levelling and 48v phantom power for condensors. The Alesis boards are decent but
as Tex stated, can use a re-construction of it's tiny as hell function buttons.
I've been trying to sell both boards for the past year & a half as they are no longer part of my recording equation, but again, their
both decent mixers with your basic functions found in most boards.
1 thing for sure... their better than any mixer Behringer has ever made.

Hi Hornet,

I actually do much more reading than I post as you can tell.

About your question, I am still using the Yamaha MD8, but I have put together a dedicated computer for recording. Thats why I have asked the question about the Alesis boards. I am going to have to get a mixer to route everything through. I don't want to use the MD8 for the mixer. As per misterqcue, I think I will be looking for a Mackie board, probobly the 1402 vlz pro.

Well thanks for your in put folks, I appreciate it.

I may not post much but I am keeping an eye on you"
