Im an ex-spurt
I've been eyeballin these things for a few months now and have read far more good reviews than bad so.....

Those of you with a Masterlink,

what's YOUR thoughts?

Is it worth the $600 to $800?

Had any problems with it?

Is the 40 gig enough for you?

Can you get it rack mountable?

I've been mixing down and burning inside the box with an Akai DPS 24 and it does the job fine but can't help but wonder if the Masterlink can do better with the dsp functions and the ability to hear different mixes of the same tune before I commit to burning.

Besides, I have g.a.s. and am willing to ask forgiveness rather than permission. :D

Any thoughts?

Much thanks......Kel

I don't use the interanl tools of the MasterLink. I do my editing in Sound Forge after tansfering my mix to my PC.

The display on my ML went out last night, if it does not come back on anytime soon, I will check with Alesis about getting it fixed. If it cost too much to fix (more than than the unit is worth), I am going to get an A/D converter and record my mixes straight back to my PC.

I got the Ml back when I stopped using my PC for tracking and mixing. I have gone pack to my PC for those functions, so if I loose the functionality of the ML, I will not miss it... just the money I have in the unit.

(Crossing my fingers that the display will come back on.)

That sucks. :( Hope it works out for ya.

AND I hope I didn't jinx it by posting this thread. :p The timing IS a little weird.

How long have you had it and how much use has the ML had? Every day for hours? Couple times a week?

Curious-n-all.

Thanks man...

I have had it for a good number of years. I would have to find my receipt to find the date. I just have a project studio, so it did not get daily use. I think everything else still works on it, but mostly useless without the ability to see what I am doing. The button lights work, so I can use it as an A/D converter using its digital out. Unfortunately, the ML is not known for having great converters.

I will try to return once I make a move in any direction.

There are several for sale over at GS just over $400.00, worth looking at.

Good news: When I got home I fired it back up and the display is back. :)

Come to think of it, it seems this happened several years ago.

Anyways, this got me to really consider about investing in a better AD converter.

That's cool FishDude...glad to hear it's up n runnin again.

And Charlie...yer talkin about slutz right? I'll take a wander over that way.
Thanks again...
