Ok...sorry if this is the wrong forum or somethin...but here is my plead for help.

I saw this on thomann.de and thought it was not bad. Just for your NFO i have no experience in mixing and know nothing about recording technologies..yet i play guitar instead:) So i though this was not bad.
I mean after all, where else can u find a mixer(4 mics/mono inputs + 2 stereo inputs), USB connection, iPod support etc..
Yet as i begun to search a little deeper i found out that its USB is 1.1..which later i found out-sucks (in a way). The problem then came up that probably there is going to be lots of latency and i don't want that to happen.

So my query is as follows:
-Is this a piece of trash that is just a marketing vehicle for Alesis to reach the less experienced users like me?

-Has anybody ever had come to test one? Anybody owns one?

-If after all, this piece of gear is not worth it..then what?

I forgot to mention that i will use it primarily at home. A guitar (through a GT-8) and probably a mic or two in the future. I hate to have any delay in my recordings..

thanx in advance:)

I would think your main question wouldn't be the latency, although I don't honestly know. But rather whether or not later you want to record several channels as individual tracks in the software.

I like the alesis firewire version. When I first bought my usb one a couple years ago I learned while it was on the way that it would condense all tracks as two in the software. I sent it back and spent a little more on the firewire version. At the time I was just recording my guitar so I didn't HAVE to have the firewire one, but I'm a fan of keeping my options open for the future.

Sure enough two years later and I'm now recording the band and am very glad I can record everything individually in the software. So really I would say switch to the firewire version mainly for being able to do more with it.

well, i don't know...basically it's the delay that occurs while recording the input and actually hearing it from the speakers which i don't want to hear at all...and i would say i m demanding in sound quality.

I mean, this is what happens with my current sound card...but i don't know. Plus i don't think i have a firewire port on my pc...

So, i don't know..i like the fact that it has built in effects for the mics and all of that stuff..and the ipod dock seems to be nice...if i want to record stuff on it...but im sceptical about its pc-recording abilities.

Maybe a PCI would be better? (If talking about speed)

Unfortunately I probably won't be much help as far as usb latency goes. I just have no experience with it. But your soundcard is moot while using an alesis firewire mixer...it becomes your soundcard. I would assume the usb version does the same thing.

If you wind up wanting to go for the firewire version you can buy a firewire card to put in your computer to let you hook up firewire devices. And you don't have to spend a ton. I think I paid 15 bucks for my desktop one, and it works great.

Plus if latency is something you really do want to focus on then firewire is your best bet. It has better sustainable data transfer than USB or USB2.0. Especially since with the alesis mixer it becomes your soundcard, literally disabling your computer's soundcard. Of course that's IF the USB one works like the FW one.

I see...thanx for the nfo...maybe ill wait up till they have a imultimix with firewire or usb 2.0...

i have the usb version and have no latency problems.

Sorry about that Kith, I must have worded it poorly. Yeah you can get both a Firewire version and a USB 2.0 version. I've had the 12 channel firewire version for a year or so and it's been great for me.

You Bet

I have an Alesis Multimix 12 Firewire and I love it...No latency to speak of, Works great...I would buy it again if i needed to. Just be SURE to download the latest drivers from thier website....No Brainer, it's great
