i am considering going up to a hard drive recorder from my da 38's and i would like to hear from people who own them or have used them in the past.
what are the differences in the two? what sucks about them? can you punch in/out via footswitch on them?
thanks

Mask,
All the reviews I read led me to the Alesis- I've had it 1 month. So far I love it.

The HD24!

For additional opinions on the matter, do a search in the "ALESIS" forum!!

Check out the Mackie *SDR*. The MDR is discontinued, and the HDR is too expensive (but adds visual editing). Street price for the SDR these days is about $1300., and you can get a cheap adapter that lets you pull the hard disk right out of the SDR and put it into your computer. The SDR uses a FAT file system, unlike the Alesis. You can also use cheap IDE drives with the SDR (I think you can do that with the Alesis as well. The SDR gives you 24 tracks at 48 kHz, but you can also choose to use 12 tracks at 96 kHz instead.

Does the mackie do timecode like the HD-24? I wish I could find out more about the pros/cons on these two items. It is difficult to find a shootout or something like that...
