Albums with best sounding acoustic guitars???

I also love the acoustic guitars on Ryan Adams' "Heartbreaker" and "Gold"...Heartbreaker is very, very stripped down and natural, whereas Gold is more produced, but the acoustics sound fabulous on it as well.

Zappa's the Grand Wazoo.

Blessed Relief has a great acoustic quasi chordal solo (thats a medical term ) towards the end and the title tracks has a good acoustic sound too for the rythm track..... very breezy sounding...... I think it was an ovation that he used too..... go figure.

I also like the guitars in that Live at Luther Collage from Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds ....... even though I generally dislike Dave Matthews.

The first "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Probably didn't hurt that Merle Travis, Doc Watson, Jimmy Martin & others were operating those guitars, either.

I luv the ac on Sam Phillip's records. Smashed so flat one could walk over it and not notice. I really liked what Flood did with U2's few acoustic bits, but then I like everything Flood does so there. Also the Los Lobos/Latin Playboys thang a few years ago - Tchad Blake is a true artist. And someone back upstream mentioned Adrian Legg -- a true icon who could be recorded on a wax cylinder and it would sound passable...

America's first album - great performance, & interesting (in a good way) production/recording.

Pure Prairie League's "Amy" excellent acoustic recording - especially that lead.

Sounds of Wood & Steel, Vol II. - various artists on Taylor guitars

I would've also said "Wish You Were Here", but it's already been mentioned a couple of times. That lead there is incredible sounding.


Oh and one more...sort of: The slide National guitar on Dire Straits "You and Your Friend" (from "On Every Street") The recording of that is phenomenal. You can practically hear the slide going over every string winding. Listen to that one with good speakers.

By far, the litmus test has to be Nick Drake's album Pink Moon. Just his voice and his guitar. That guitar sound/tone/recording is so surreal in its perfection.

Night of the Living Dregs by the Dixie Dregs has a stunning lead acoustic guitar sound that is what I've been striving for for years.

Also, ditto on Michael Hedges, Tuck and Patti and William Ackerman.
