Hi, I've just been looking through my record collection, and put on "Jagged Little Pill" -- Track 2 "You outta know"

Anyway, The voice does some really freaky things. One minute, it's in normal mono and panned in the middle, the next, it's as if the voice is in stereo, but a wierd stereo effect. Is it a delay thing?

can anyone offer any advice on how to get this effect in some of my mixes?

thanks,

Rochey

I haven't scrutinized that recording at all, but what you describe could be using multitracked vocals panned to different sides of the mix (along with the main vocal). Lenny Kravitz has alot of this in his recordings; Left channel has 1 take, and right channel has another.

Thanks,

Jon

Oh, i didn't realise it was such a simple thing.

Now I feel really really stupid.

thanks man. :D have a good day.

It could also be via the use of a very powerful stereo FX processor such as the various Eventide super processors out there such as the Orville. Teh effect used would just be a stereo reverb but what fiddlin'jon mentioned is very common in modern records.
