Hopefully w/ Alan off RO, he'll contribute more here.
WARNING: The following is a joke (I hope)...

Oh no... that doesn't mean our HR mic forum is going to be the new PMI Audio forum does it?
----------------------------

Anyway, I've had my say about this thread... and I'm done with this thread and going back to talking about mics.

Alan

Did your forum disappear off of recording.org, or am I just crazy?

Are the two mutually exclusive????----Just kiddin' man!

Me being crazy wasn't the question - I know I am. I just wondered if I was so crazy that I couldn't see the link to the forum. :)

PS... Just the other day I read in a thread over on the old PMI Audio forum and they were talking about how much more friendly RO was than HR... and now the RO bashing, I don't get it?

Well, on Alan's forum on RO he (Alan) didn't have to worry about getting flamed or being called a spammer very often. In that respect I can see where he thought it was a much more friendly place than here...

But in general, things at RO have gone to hell in a handbasket compared to a couple of years ago. Any time you try to make people pay for the honor of posting on your site, things go downhill....

Chess, my condolances. Thoughts and prayers go out to you. Don't be a stranger here, your experience and opinions are valued by many.

I had learned about Chris's wife passing several days ago, but at his request, I did not say anything about. I have expressed to Chris my personal feelings both in e-mail and on the phone. I was very sad to hear this news, and I am sure all of us join in to hope Chris heals and will be able to move on from this.

As for RO, it was what it was. No one pays here, and no one should pay there. I did the forum for free, and did not ask for a fee as many other moderators do on some other forums.

I did not want to see it down, but I did not think it right for RO to ask me to pay....Especially when you consider the time I put into it. Then as a moderator, I felt I had to jump in on other forums on RO and participate in the Mods Corner. This took up a good deal of time.

I do not expect to be asked, nor will I use HR to promote PMI. I will be happy to spend a bit more time here to discuss technical issues and answer direct questions as I did on the soundfield thread.

So I am around and not hard to find.... Thanks for asking though, and be sure to send all your well wishes to Chessparov aka Chris....

My sympathies are with you and your family, Chris. I understand from personal experience the meaning of your words about focusing on what's really important in life, even here at this little forum.

Hang in there,

J.

This is very true. I did see RO going downhill, and I predict they will be loosing more moderators soon enough. It is too bad, because at one time it was a good place :)

Yeah, that would get deleted REAL quick.....

and i can see why thRO PMI forum is gone.....why buy the advertising cow(RO) when you are getting the advertising milk(HR) for free......

Chris, I am so very sorry to hear about your loss brother, it really knocks me down. You have my deepest sympathy.

You know you have many friends here, if you need any help, please ask.

Peace, Han

Alan has been a great help to me personally (whether he knows it or not). Of course his own products presume a bias that any manufacturer will display, but Alan always mentions the competition in his posts...which I see as an honorable act.

In use, the SP line has been phenomenal, though personally the B1 and C1 are all I have utilized. They are the thing to beat in Chinese mics IMHO and I have been happy with each purchase.

There are many mics in the price range of the SPs (I myself own 2 Marshalls) but who from Marshall will tell us like it is, day in and day out? I submit no one (please correct me if I'm wrong).

These guys took it to the next level when it comes to Chinese mics and they should be lauded for that. Whether or not you like their mics, the Chinese mic you prefer is a fucking (I do not use that word often) direct result of their positioning in the market, please keep that in mind.

Chris,

I am terribly sorry to hear of your wife's passing. Just know my prayers are with you, as are many, many others I am sure. Thanks for your contributions (not to mention selling me a couple good mics!). But as you said, issues of life and death outweigh anything else here. May God bless you.

Thanks for your response, Alan. Most of us here appreciate your knowledge as an engineer and as an industry insider to give us a different perspective. Just make sure you have your asbestos suit on, or better yet, use the ignore function. :)

Chris, my best to you and your family. I can't imagine life without my wife and hope I go before her...

Thanks for the words of wisdom, and I can't agree more -- considering what really does happen in life (outside this forum), this stuff is extremely petty. It's only rock and roll, guys and gals.

Chris,

I too hope to offer all the consolation the internet provides. I myself nearly lost my life, and to see my wife that distraught taught me what it is to live.

I hope this isn't too shallow, considering the wires that are between us, but I feel I can relate to you on some level.

Godspeed, my friend in audio.

Luke

Thanks for the kind words and wishes everyone.

Kathy's birthday was coming up next month when she would turn 45.
I was with her in the hospital room when she passed on in her sleep.

Although my intent was primarily to bring a sense of perspective,
I'm fond of many of the members here, and think of homerec as less a BBS than a "cyber-club". Therefore it seemed appropriate to disclose this at this time.

Apologies to anyone to who tried to send a "PM" (private message), and the box was full. About to delete a number of old PM's.

I sincerely hope we can put any tension in this thread behind us.
Remember when recording was...
fun! :)

Chris

Chess/ Chris,

Im very sad to hear the bad news. My own wife is doing chemo right now, fighting breast cancer. It really does put things into a whole different perspective. Our prayers are with you.

Thanks Musical.

I hope your wife is able to have as speedy a recovery as possible.
IMHO sharing things that pick up someone's spirits helps boost their stamina,
as you may well already know. We watched one of Kathy's favorite funny
movies ("Finding Nemo") the night before, and I got her laughing.
Somehow God gave her the strength to make it to the next morning.

To return to this thread, let's keep in mind that Neumann didn't come out with the TLM series out of the kindness of their own hearts.

Heavy competition from up and coming companies, like Alan's, made them face today's market realities. An owner's outgoing personality is par for the course because you have to have passion to succeed-or a big enough bank account! :>

Chris

Chris, I'm sorry to hear your loss... I don't kow what to say... My prayer goes to you!

;)
