I bought a lot of 8 mics a while back and I'm going to sell off 4 or 5 of them because I never record a lot of people together.
AKG CK47 capsules with HM1000 cable/amp. This setup is a standard for micing choirs/orchestras/performances of all types. It is intended to be hung from the ceiling in a venue, but I've found they work great in the $4 springloaded mic clip from GtrCtr.
From page 17 of the Owner's Manual (http://www.performanceaudio.com/media/pdf/2/173_m.pdf):
"The CK47 is acoustically equivalent to the proven AKG C747"
The C747 is a longtime standard for recording and live sound on horns (Sax especially) and I've found these mics sound great for that purpose. You can see in the manual that the response falls off slightly over 10k. To me, this makes them sound very similar to ribbon mics I've used, and I use them in any instance you would put up a ribbon (Gtr amps, drum OH's, some vocals) as I don't own a ribbon.
There are 3 samples recorded with the C747 2/3 way down this page:

$459 for the capsule at Full Compass
http://www.performanceaudio.com/cgi/product_view.cgi?products_id=180
$225 for the HM1000 at Performance Audio
I'm selling these off for $200 each set (one capsule and one cable). They are new in the boxes but I believe I opened each one to inspect the contents, so I'll represent them as USED, MINT CONDITION. Paypal preferred. $7 shipping to anywhere in the continental US.
