Yo Jamie! It's *not* the wrong size. Do you know how to use this thing? There is a big threaded ring at the bottom, Turn it all the way counterclockwise. Place the mic in the shockmount, and then turn the ring clockwise until it grips. That shock will also work on a host of other mics that have a shaft at the bottom, or on small diaphragm condensers. I use it on AKG D112, Neumann KM184, Octava MC012, AKG C2000B, *and* the C414. Take another look, and then tell us if there is really a problem, There's a small chance the shock is defective.-Richie

It would appear that I put some incorrect information in the post. The H-85 that I have which was shipped to me from AKG as a replacement for the one I broke has a basket on it that goes from 22-26mm. The correct size basket for the 414xlII is 19-26mm.

The mechanism works correctly, just the XLIIs shaft weighs in at 20mm Just slightly thinner than the fully closed 22-26mm basket.

Thanks for pointing out the erroneous information

I'm even more confused now than I was before.
The H100 shock mount, which is black, does indeed accomodate shaft dimensions from 22-26mm.
The H85, which is gray, runs from 19-26mm, which was done to accomodate the Blue Line series.

The shaft on a C414B-XLII is about 22mm, not 20, as you state, and even if it was, an H85 should fit it. I see 2 solutions:

1. Contact AKG and describe the incompatibility, because something here is nonstandard. The H85 *is* the factory supplied shock mount for that mic.

2. Wrap some heavy duty duct tape or gaffer's tape around the shaft of the mic until it fits, and forget about it.

I'd do both. Good luck- Richie

How odd

I never noticed before but the basket is black and the outer ring and mic stand adaptor are more of a charcoal color. This was purchased directly from akg. What gives?

No clue. See above suggestions.-Richie

My H100 has brass female threads, smaller than a common stand in the US. Who sells a compatible stand?

Thanks

That's the brass insert in the threads to fit a European stand. Take a dime, remove the brass insert, and it will fit a standard American mic stand thread.

And if you don't have a dime ... a flathead screw drive works. :D
Also the screw drive works great at opening beers!

On the other hand, if you don't have a dime, maybe you'd better sell that expensive shock mount and sign up for the soup kitchen.
