Hi folks

I know this is a classic bass drum mic, but what other applications is it suitable for? i heard that TV & film studios used them for V/O work, but would this have been with a ribbon head fitted or is the Dynamic head fit for vocal recording?

I have seen these for sale at one place for $310 & $950 at another! What is the average street price?

Cheers

$950 is closer to the average street price... so if you can snag on for $310...DO IT!!!!!!! without hesitation [unless it's fucked up... in which case I don't know where to get them repaired, so it might not be the bargain it would appear to be].

what was the name of the place again selling it for 310?:D

OK

I am in the process of negotiating with a guy for a pair of them. He seems to be clueless to the value of these mics and this makes me feel very guilty!

Both are in very good condition, but one has a small dent in the mesh. Will this impact on the sound, as I know that the shape of the 'cage' can often help give a mic it's sound? - What is the correct name for the capsule enclosure anyway?

Other than that, the one with the dent appears less scratched than the other, but both are very good cosmetically!

If I get both, I will probably be selling one, or trying to swap it for a good dual pre amp, if anyone is interested? I will be trying to get the best price possible though, as I am unemployed and poor at the moment!! PM me if interested.

Yes, it will impact the sound... but... it's not too difficult to remove the grill screen and push the dent out...

Thanks Fletcher. Will I need any particular tools? I am guessing you own or have used a D25 or two? Have you found any other uses other than kick?

Also, I have recently bought a RE1000 (ElectroVoice), which is very underated IMHO. Inside the mesh, it has another mesh which I think is a windshield or possibly to do with the environmental protection. Anyway, it has somehow been pushed in a bit on the left hand side. Will this also effect the sound of this mic? I can't find a way in to pull it back straight (no screews).

Fletcher

I have secured one of them for a stupid amount of money. I'm too embarrassed to say how much right now, but let's just say it will be going on the 'Best deal' thread!

The guy has given me the choice of two. One is newer ser. No. 3325& has the dent; the other is older (looks it but still good) ser. No 846. Which would be best? Was there any change in the design as the years went on that you know of, or do you know who may know? I'm thinking the newer one would be better and I'll push the dent out?

If I can some how get the other from him, I'll be even happier than I am now! :)

Snag them both and email me about the second... Fletcher@mercenary.com.

The only tools you need to remove the dent are a screwdriver to remove the grill and a large bladed flat head screwdriver to push the grill back into place.

If it's really stoopid low money like you said... then I'd like to get the other one if it's available.

I'm working on getting the other one and I'll let you know if I do, as I will be looking to sell it (I'm so poor).

The guy has told me he has another 'old' mic I may be interested in? He will let me know the details after the weekend!!! Bastard!! It's like he's teasing me???!!!

Anyway, keep your finger crossed that he doesn't find out how much the mics are worth before my cheque for one of the D25's goes through and the deal doesn't go sour! Also, lets hope that old mic has a 'U' in the name and needs some funny box to make it work!:)
