hi all,
i was digging around in my basement this afternoon and came across 2 microphones i forgot i owned: an AKG D1200E, and an EV 627A. i have two questions:
-the AKG sounds like poop. utter, unusuable, not even neat-sounding poop. all you get is thin, harsh, abrasive hi-end and low low output. from what i understand, it's not a terrible mic, and i can't imagine AKG manufacturing a mic so inherently capable of making any usefull sounds. so i assume mine is broken. does anyone out there own and use these mics? what should it sound like, and what could be wrong with mine (ie, what generally causes mics to lose all freq response below 10K or so)?
-the EV 627A sounds kind of cool... however, it is very old and not a 'pro' mic... it has an on/off switch and a 1 pin connector. thankfully i have a cord that works, but it is a 1 pin to 1/4"... is there a way to convert this mic to balanced XLR connectors? is this difficult? can you get a 1 pin to XLR cable from anywhere?? anyone else tried this mic?
thanks a lot,
michael
