AKG d110 vs CAD KBM 412

I am looking to buy a kick mic in the $50 to $70 range. I am leaning toward the CAD KBM 412 as I have used the CAD KM 212 and had fairly good results. But I was also considering the AKG D110. I can't find any reviews on it though. Any opinions or other recomendations would be apreciated.

No experience with the AKG D110, but those CAD mics are boomy as hell. They sound the way their frequency graph looks!

Not a good pick in my opinion, I'd rather use an SM57 which is actually a decent kick mic when used close in.

The CAD KBM-412 has tons of low end, but trying to get any attack out of it is like try to squeeze water out of a dry towel. I have used the Superlux FK-2 for kick and really like the sound I get. I can EQ it fairly easy to the amount of attack I want. Low end is good too. I now augment the lows with a subkick, though I don't know if its all that neccessary. I just like the extra rumble.

I will probably never use the KBM-412 for anything except bass cabs.

IMHO, it's not good for anything other than triggering . . at least on a kick.


you'd have much better luck with a sm57 on it, wich you can get on ebay in your pricerange
 
now, you guys know that someone just starting out (making an assumption here) is going to have trouble getting a good kick sound out of an sm57. i would go for a used audio technica pro25, he'll get much more pleasing results while figuring out about placement.
 
This track was done with just the Superlux FK-2 on kick, with no subkick. Pardon to those who have heard it before (that old dead horse needs a whippin'). Its still a work in progress. I added a little 6k for attack and a slight boost on the low end.
