No but I do have a matched pair of 414 and they really do the trick!
I'm not sure though if the 214 have the same capsule or not, or the same circuity for that matter!
Just wondering ...what are you using for a preamp?
I take it your not near a G. C. ? For they always have one out on display along with a bunch of other microphones. I would suggest a road trip and audition the 214 along with a few microphones for a first hand experience.
But if you can't make it to a G.C. my guess would be that the 214 would be suitable for what your wanting this microphone for.
I have a c214. Never really compared it to a 414. But I love my c214. I use it mainly for singing vocals, but I love it on guitar amp and any acoustic instrument I've used it on. Not slot of high end stuff to compare it to, but I really like it.
Most the songs on my page were recorded with one on vocals. myspace.com/amcbstudios the top songs definately were.
