I've heard good things about this microphone, and I've read a few promising reviews. So tell me, has anyone tried this mic? And is it worth what i've read about it?

thanks.

It has a very harsh, peaky top end, IMO. It wouldn't be my 1st choice....

....or my 15th choice either.

I like them as either a snare mic or on toms. Occasionally on a guitar amp. Other than that they're pretty useless.

...and if you continue your research you'll find numerous anectodal reviews which dislike this mic. For the $$, there are better choices.

Phanatic47,

If you would like to hear this mic on acoustic guitar, I have a clip of a Martin D18 recorded with a C1000s through a Mackie 1604vlz at terryandjuliebluez.com - look at the bottom of the page for "San Antone Blues." The voice was done with a Rode NT2.
Those mics and mixer are now long gone as I've upgraded most of my gear since then. But, if you are truly interested in the C1000s this is an example of it in use (even though it was an early attempt at home engineering ;~)
For the record, I would also look elsewhere for a sdc.

Regards,
Terry

If you know Harvey well enough, it would mean it sucks, right Harvey? :D :D :D

Not the most versatile mic on the market.

Right, Marik.

I've heard some peole say they liked them but I never found a use for it where another, often much cheaper, mic wouldn't work better.

what about the C2000
is this a big step up or once again wasted money... ?

the c2000 is a totaly different mic i've found usefull for acoustic guitars and some vocals and i've heard of people using them for other things with good results.

I've never heard one, but a lot of people I respect tell me it's a very different mic from the C1000 and C3000 - and that can only be a good thing.

I wouldn't pay even $50 for a C1000.

For similar / less money get an MXL603s or oktava mk12 the C1000 is pretty much universally despised.

For my first home recording project I recorded EVERYTHING with a C1000S. I didn't know much about gain structure or mixing but when I attempted my second project with an SE Electronics SE2200A for all vocals and acoustic instruments, things were much improved. The drums still sucked though.

The mentioned ones are worth considering, as are the Studio Projects C4s and allegedly similar Behringer B5s. There are also some ADK and SE ones that are virtually identical, the ADKs go for £49 over here. If you're in the UK there's also Red5 which people rate highly but I haven't used.

i've used a c1000, didn't like it,

but now,,,,it does sound a bit "weird" to me,

the c1000 is "junk"
the c3000 isn't good either

then how come the c2000 is OK....what are the main differences,
aren't these 3 mics supposed to be pretty close to each other?
and ehm,,,is that 2000 more expensive than the others? :o

thanx

They have different capsules, different casings, the C1000 circuit is completely different to that of the C2000 and C3000

Here in the U.K. the C2000 is £10 more than the C1000 (which is £99) and £30 less than the C3000.

get the D1000E instead.
old dynamic mic. very sweet and makes a BD sound crunchy and in your face.
