Hi guy,

I knew that these mic are famous of in miking acoustic guitar. I have been told that C451B is very nice mic and better than C1000s for recording acoustic guitar.
In terms of live sound reinforcement, which is best pick?
I currently use AKG D770 to miking guitar and recently own D3800 for lead vocal.

Thanks for help!

no one want to offer comment?
How about in terms of high gain before feedback and Acoustic Guitar?

wait for a day or two, someone may have some advice.

I know that in the studio the 451 is smoother than the 1000. but I've used c1000s for live orchestral recording with amazing results. however I've never had much luck with them on acoustic guitar recording, and I don't do live sound much so I'm not very helpful here.

Well,....the 451 is a nice mic, and better than the C1000. Get a used one ( EB ) and it wont set you back too bad.

Neither really has more of a problem than the other. I would go with the 451 any day of the week.

I have often tried touse the C1000s for live micing of anything from bagpipes to guitars. Even with the hypercardiod cap in position, I have NEVER been able to get ANY of the mic in the monitors with out feedback. The only way it has sort of worked was the guitarist had an internal pickup (nasty ounding) that he ran to a personal monitor and I ran the C1000s through the mains only.

The 414 is definitely a more versatile microphone - with its various pickup patterns, pad and LF roll off - would recommend over the c1000 if you can afford its higher price tag.

414's however will definately be harder to use in a less than optimal live setting than either a 451 or a C1000. Especially if using on the front line on an acoustic guitar.

My bad - miss-read the model number. Yeah I agree - maybe 451 is a better choice live.

But for recording I'd go with the 414 :)

oh, 414 is my dream mic! I have once been miked in live concert and was wondering why my guitar sound so "guitar" than before through this big AKG stuff? The mid range sound warmth and sweat with nice bottom, however, I noticed that it lack of air in upper range. I used to be miked by SDC's AKG which result in nice airy sound.
Hence I suspected that if I have been miked by two mic would be much better (414+451).

IMO the C1000 is sort of a turd. Look at an SM81 perhaps as well.

On acoustic instruments, I find that the 451 often sounds better than the 414, even in the studio. I own a few 414's, 2 new, and 2 old 451's. They do sound good together, but the 451 often offers a tighter sound on acoustic instruments. I use both quite frequently though and they never sound bad:)

Perhaps I just request a 414 mic when doing concert again as it cost too much for me.
How about C391B? I saw it next to the C451B with almost same price. It uses CK1, which is used by C415B, with SE300B body.

just to confuse things and be a pain in the ass (and break one of my own rules about suggesting something other than what you're asking...), another thought is the akg c535 eb, a SDC that is intended for handheld vocals but can be really good on acoustic guitar live, and it has good feedback rejection. the 535 is a sleeper mic in the akg line, for me its worth 4 times what it costs.

I'll second the 535. I have a pair I use for live vocals, but they are goto mics for recording acoustic

I heard C535 is good for live vocal but never think about as a instrument mic. It price is about the same as C451B. I may need to consider C535 again. (It has been out of my list due to the old fashion looking! )
