After a bit of shopping, I finally
found the microphone that is perfect
for the "one mike" question I had a
while back. My question was, "what is
one good mic to buy if you can only
afford one, using it for vocals, and
for miking instruments?"
I got so many opinions on the board,
I decided to trust my own ears instead,
but with one safety measure thrown in!
Not completely trusting my own ears, I hired a local studio engineer to go with me to
Guitar Center, and we compared mikes for
a few hours, A-B'ing them through
headphones.
The winner was....
The new AKG-C-2000B!
This mike didn't blow the Numann's away,
but at a sale price of $246, I am a happy
man, and my wallet is a bit fatter.
AKG has done it again!
If anyone out there is thinking about
shopping around for a mike, and you are
near a big recording studio, call up the engineer and ask if he will help you
pick out a mike.
I paid this guy $75 to do one hour of
listening, and it was worth every penny!
Even he was amazed the thing sounded this
good. he just kept shaking his head, going
"are you SURE it's really only $246?"
