I own a AKG 1000S Condenser Mic - I have been using this as my main recording mic (acoustic guitar and vocal and sometimes an amp) with , "eh" results.

I am sure it has to do with my placement and or room but I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with this mic and how they use it, position it for acoustic guitar, etc.

Here are specs
Frequency response: 50Hz-20kHz
Polar pattern: cardioid; hypercardioid with PPC 1000 mounted
Sensitivity: 6mV/Pa (-45dBV)
Impedance: 200 ohms
Max SPL, 0.5% THD: 137dB
Equivalent noise level: 19dBA
Dimensions: 1-3/8"D x 8-3/4"L

There's a ton of threads about that mic here - someone was asking the same question within the past week or so.

That said, while it's not a wildly popular mic around here, I own a pair of them and I've gotten pretty good results out of it. I generally use an X-Y pattern pointed at about the 14th fret, 2-4" back for strummy stuff where my fretting hand isn't that far up the fretboard, where the neck joins the body on my Martin. Sounds fine to me. :)

RAMI, I believe, also uses them as overheads on drums, and gets frequent compliments on his drum sound.

Do you have a second mic, or just that one C1000s? If you just have one, try pointing it at the 14th fret, a couple inches back (leave yourself enough room to fret, if you'll be soloing that high up the neck - I usually go with 2-4" unless I know I'll need more room), and then try exactly doubling your performance and panning one left and one right.

It may not be everyone's favorite mic here, but in my experience it is a good SDC for close-micing acoustics. If you can't get at least an acceptably good sound out of it, I'd look at your guitar, your room, or your technique.

Most people say bad things about it. I think it's an OK mic. I never used it in a pair or by it self, but in combination with another mic, like a AKG c 2000 b or 3000 b. It adds some flavor. I even walked around with it once and pointed it at stuff, like the highway.

It can be used on a lot of stuff. It's up to you to figure out on what things you think it sounds good on.
