Akg 1000

Would you say the AKG 1000 is good as or on par with the SM58 for a live vocal mic.

I know its used for instruments too but was wondering if its worth getting for gigs.

Absolutely not. I like C-1000's for certain applications (a lot of folks hate this mic but it's just misunderstood ). In a live situation the C-1000 would be a nightmare. I'd take a 58 any day. By the way I have two of each.

The AKG C-1000 would be a terrible choice for live vocals IMHO. If you are considering a condenser mic for live use then check out an AKG 535EB which is an excellent live vocal mic.

Neumann has the KMS 105 which is a great live vocal mic too but it is in the mid $400 range.

Karma has the K7 which is a condenser stage mic. It sounds very good on male vox. I haven't tried it yet on female vox but it should do well on them too.

All three of the above mics will do a good job for you no matter which one you end up with. You just have to decide if you want to spend around $200 or more than double that. You can check out all three of the mics below. Good luck

I also agree that the C1000 is misunderstood

I don't use them in the studio, but for live overheads & acoustic instruments they rock, also the direction cap helps a lot

the C1000 is usable for live vocals particualrly if the D/cap is used to tighten the pickup pattern, however in louder settings I'd go to the 58

Well, are you asking about the C1000 or the D1000? Big difference.

I agree on the akg C1000 is not the first choice on live vox.

But I have had decent results with it once, when I was setting up the sound for a small church concert.
I was out of mics and had to use the only mic I had left wich was a c1000 for vox and guitar at the same time.
It worked flawlessly.
I would do it again if I had to.

But my first choice if I had enough inputs would be sm58, works like a charm

No. For live vocals I'd look into a Sennheiser 835 or Audix OM5 (OM5 if you prefer a brighter mic). Either of these are good choices. The SM58 is ok for some voices but is typically muddy. Try them out at a local music store if you can; that's the best way to know for sure if you're buying for a single vocalist.

If you mean the AKG C1000S skip it altogether. Blech.
