I recently bought a tube reel to reel deck (roberts 770) and it hasnt come in the mail yet. But i wanted to know if anyone has any experience with these and knows anything about how they sound (espescially the tubes). I am going to try it out as a reel to reel but i bought it mostly to pull the preamps out for use as mic preamps for a Tascam 38. Has anyone bought one of those Ti modified Roberts? How does it sound?

I have a Ti modified Roberts tube pre; i just got it a few months ago,
have have not had the time to put it throught the paces. It is a relatively coloured, character preamp. It has tons of gain, much more than you will ever need! When you crank it, the tube compresses the signal, it distorts in a pretty fat way. Ok headroom, and a "thick" tone. DI synths/guitars benifit from this effect. Once i get some time, i'll post some clips done with this preamp...

Thanks! I havent gotten mine modified yet. Total cost will be high as hell for two. But i eventually will. If you ever do post sounds ill listen to them, if not its ok i realize people are busy. Thanks again for the information.
