Akai MPK Mini Issues

Hello All,

So I recently purchased an Akai MPK mini with the idea that I would essentially plug the thing in and download the software and start making some tunes. I have never been more confused in my entire life. I cannot get it to play a single sound even after downloading all of the sounds from the website (MPC Essentials is the sofware) and hours of youtube searches.

I would like to be able to assign the drum pads and keyboard to instruments (anything from classical piano to EDM sounds) and then be able to record and layer the sounds in the easiest way possible. I really don't need anything too crazy.

1. Is there a good online tutorial for Noobs that I've missed (haven't found a good one online, youtube yet)?

Alternatively, I may simply have purchased the wrong midi for what I am trying to do. I was considering this (Amazon.com: M-Audio Keystation 49 II USB Keyboard MIDI Controller: Musical Instruments) which comes with Sonivox (looks easier to use). I'm willing to give up the drum pads for some additional simplicity.

Thanks and as Bill and Ted said: Be excellent to eachother!

Lou

You shouldn't have any issues using the keys like pads, that's how I do it. The pads on the Akai are so small they really don't serve much benefit over a key anyway IMO.
