Akai EX75N any good

Hi,

My local used gear emporium has an Akai EX75N noise reducer. It looks like it's an expander plus low pass filter. I don't know if the filter operates all the time or "in the gaps".

Has anyone any experience of this unit? Does it add more noise than it takes away?

Just in case anyone's interested. My $65 was well spent.

It's a mono expander that worked entirely as expected i.e. it dealt with tape noise far less obtrusively than a noise gate and the filter comes in during those bits that weren't as quiet as they should have been.

Of course it would have been better if I'd not screwed up the recording in the first place but at least I lost most of the noise pumping that the noise gate was causing.
