akai DPS16 mixdown question

When do these errors occur? Is there a pattern?

I used to get errors only when I was trying to write or play from my Yamaha CD drive. As I described previously, I contacted Akai (www.akaipro.com) and following their advice to set the CD write speed to x4, I have not had the errors since. If you are trying to use the CD player function, there are problems with the Yamaha in this area.

I recently maxed out my 10-gig drive and have recently replaced it with a 30-gig Quantum Fireball. Easy to install, tripled my capacity, and so far so good.

:)

It happens when Im in record mode, in the process of recording something. Never when Im burning a cd, thats okay for now.

Is the 30gig Drive less or more noisy than the stock Drive? Just curious because at AkaiPro.com they mention a Drive made by Fuji and its suppost to be really quiet.

I work in a small space where sound noise is crucial.

Tascam CDRW700...

We burn the mixes to a Tascam CDRW700, which dithers the 24bit recording down to 16bit/44.1kHz.

Is that Tascam a real-time recorder? If so do you even need to mix down to two tracks on the DPS to burn to an audio cd? If you can connect it to the DPS through the s/pdif, can't you just play a 14 track project AS a 14 track project (with all the levels and pans set where you want em) while the recorder records?

Is any of this correct? Please be gentle...

hey man, I have an AKAI DPS 16 also and havent had any problems with error messages. I have been using it ALOT lately recording my band and all that good shit. I have the 20Gig hard drive and more than half is used up. Need to start backing shit up before a major blowout!!! glad you got the mixdown figured out. It's easy once you know the routine! Good luck bro!!
