Sure is photogenic. It may turn out to be 1/10 as cool as one of the original fiberglass ones, but at least it'll ebay well.

For $1,000 I would look into the vintage market. I've played some Eastwoods (or should I say "yeastwoods"), they look right, but they don't feel or sound right.

He did try one in a guitar store and liked the way it felt and sounded. But assuming we are not going vintage, is he better off with a standard American Strat?

Nah different is good, almost every player I know owns or plays a strat of some sort and it is getting kinda boring.... to tell you the truth I am really getting tired of that out of phase sound. I sold my american vintage strats because almost every player in town had that same type of guitar. I bought a couple of Reverends, a Gill Paris and a Buckshot and I am very happy with those but still looking for somthing different. That Airline '59 Custom guitar with the Bigsby looks very cool and if he likes the sound and it plays well for him Go For It.

It's a pity they aren't more '59 - upgraded reissues are an odd thing. The originals sound great to my ears. If an original isn't available, I haven't heard the re run, I suppose this could be good. If he's played a few & is happy with them go ahead.
I have to ask though: what's "graduation money"?

It's something that I don't think either of us got when we graduated, Ray!!:(

Actually I think I remember David Lindley may have used an Airline on some of his Live performances and studio work--I would bet his were the original vintage items though!;)

Anyone know anything about this guitar? My son wants to get it with his high school graduation money.

the only thing i know about them is that this guy plays one:

Jack White plays an original. I had the similar Eastwood Supro guitar for a while. All I can tell you is these things are MASSIVELY overpriced. They have the look but not the sound or feel.

yup. if it weren't for him, they probably wouldn't even be making them now. they certainly wouldn't be priced the way they are.
