Posted this a long while back as one of my first recordings and got some good and useful criticisms. I've since totally re-mixed/re-vamped everything. I wiped out every setting, put all the faders at 0, and started from scratch with the raw tracks. The only thing I re-tracked is the drums. Everything else is the same - just cleaned up and polished a little better.

Old version:

Any comments/suggestions are very welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg

New mix has better separation but also sounds kind of harsh/brittle where the old one sounds very lofi. I think the trashy style drums of the old mix were a better fit for the song.

I reckon the 2nd mix is better but just a bit too polished - maybe it needs to burnish back a tad. Much better separation on the 2nd but the guitar needs to be a raggeder, if this is possible, or makes any sense

Reminds me of Blue Cheer a bit :D

I'm on phones nor (nice ones but, none the less)

Both sound good in thier own way to me. The cymbal hits on the new mix seem a bit up thier on the phones to me.

I'll try to come back later for a listen on the monitors :o

Is this your song Greg or a cover?

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Travis - Thanks for listening. I think you're right about the 'harshness' of the new mix. After sleeping on it and listening with fresh ears, I think it could use a little cut in the high frequencies.

Polska - Hey Ho Lets Go! :)

Rohan - Thanks for listening. The guitars were tracked direct through a processor, so I'm kinda stuck with their sound besides some EQ work. I tried to make the best out of a not-the-best situation.

F.S. - Thanks for listening man. Yeah like I said to Travis, I think I need to chill the highs a little. That should take care of the harsh cymbal crashes and stuff. This song uses a lot of open, sloppy hats and cymbal crashes, so its a fine line between the right sound and killing ears. It's not my song unfortunately. It's from a relatively new and mostly unheard of band called 'Towers of London'. They're sort of like a mix between the Sex Pistols and Turbonegro, if that makes any sense. Pretty cool band though. Funny stuff and good straight-up rock songs.

Thanks again everyone. I'll post up a newer mix later. :)

Second mix, right off teh bat is better. Chill a bit of the highs, just a small amount. It is a tad bright. Mainly those cymbals. They overpower a little at times. Good tune though man....it sounds pretty tight.
