Good god I don't like the song (and I'm a metalhead) - but I won't comment on that any further. I've definitely had to mix worse, so I feel for ya :D. I actually think the mix is off to a good start - ;).

The snare rubs me wrong - it sounds outside of the mix or something. I wish two things for the toms - more balls, and that I could hear them more. If you have those guitars smashed on their own bus - I find it helpful to send a small amount of toms through the guitar bus to help them from being smothered. The guitars sound pretty good - they're pretty fuzzy, but that's not something you can fix in the mix...it's just the tone. At around 1:50 - the whole mix turns to mush - I would guess that your limiter(s) are being waaaayyy over driven. Can't hear or understand much of anything. HTH :D

thanks for the ideas man! The snare is driving me insane too. I believe he tightened up the snare way too much and it ended up sounding thin..so i triggered it over...the mix is pretty hot, if I being everything down it should clear up the mush correct?

Triggered! I knew that snare didn't sound right :D. (I use drumagog a lot more than I would like to admit, too, I'm not one of those condescending types - I know that sometimes it's tricky to make it sound like it was the original instrument).

Bringing everything down: Yea, that will definitely do it, but you might mess up the whole.. "vibe" of your mix, of course. I'd look more into what can be cut from each track, and what can be brought down, or cut entirely, from the mushy parts.

I have a feeling you've been mixing this for a good while today, is that right? I suspect I get that feeling because I sometimes end up with situations like that at 1:50 in this song when I've been mixing something for waaaayyy too long. It's like we lose sight of what the song sounds like to a new listener because we've heard it 18,000 times in a row. Just a hunch...

I think what's killing it at the 1:50 mark is all the cymbals and the high hats... They sound way too loud and they seem to over power everything else. Listen to a band called Terror and maybe Full Blown Chaos for a reference on mixing those faster "punk beat" parts similar to what kicks in at 1:50.

I really don't mind the snare the way it is, what really sounds detached to me is the kick, there might be a bit too much click there. I would try to sink it better in the mix, kind of the way that Slipknot do it with Joey Jordison's kick. Even though it clicks it still sits very well in the mix. The genre is what it is, you either like it or you don't, but what you've done up to now is a pretty good start.

Joey :):)

your right TyphoidHippo I was playing around with it since this morning. I'm gonna be back in the studio tomorrow evening...im gonna try to blend the kick a little more and the cymbals...maybe cut some highs off the overheads?? I'll upload another version soon... thanks again guys

I like the tune but it needs to be tighter.Sometimes the guitars seem a slight bit behind the drums and sometimes a bit ahead of the drums. For me that stood out more than the quality of the recording.
