Ok so i have this external 200gig drive made by Western Digital. It was given to me as a gift and i really like it, and i want to keep it because it makes transfering music frm my studio to my friends studio in N.O real ez, because i can just take the drive and firewire and plugin, lol, and use it there, but I have a small problem, Its making a noize....

Let me try to emulate the noise in text.

when i start it up it goes

wwwwwwwWWWWWWWWWEWEEWEEWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Real sharp like. Sounds kinda cool.

Then when it sleeps it goes.

ERRRR ERRRRRRRRRR ERRRRRRRRRRRRR ERRR ERRRRRRRRRRRRR~

~ ='s infinity

Then after like 2 hours it sleeps and is quite, but if you touch me mouse you will awaken the sleeping giant.
 
why dont you just record the sound and put it up in mp3 for us. eh eh?

Well, it's an external drive, which means you could just connect it only when actually transferring files.

It sounds like Windoze is synchronizing files when it wakes up. What you need to do is tell the OS not to do this.
