First he had to get an Audix Tr-40 or an MBHO, show it to Taiwan, choose the color, tell them where to put the logo, come up with an expensive sounding model number, and write the specs for the mic, based on what sounds plausible for the price.
This all takes time. At least, it takes time IF you want it all to be "corret".

I plug mine into my SPLL Meetter to ballance my hom teatre and to recerd hi hatts 
I also use it to record sonic mirror impulses of all the clubs I work in.
