I'm struggling to make a decision on a video card. And at the risk of seeming like a bafoon,I ask this question.
If I buy an AGP video card, where does the monitor plug in
to?I still haven't recieved my BE6-2 in the mail, and from the printout I got about it online,I don't see anything labeled"monitor".Do I need to buy an adapter?Should I just go pci?Is my head up my ass?Help!!!

Well beezelbubba....I hate to say it but, yes, your head is up your ass :)

The monitor will plug into the video card of course! Whether the video card is AGP or PCI or VESA or even ISA...you're still going to plug the monitor into the monitor port on the back of the card.

Now, if your current computer has an "integrated" video "card", then the video is actually right on the motherboard...built-in so to speak (and less than desirable). In this case, you'll plug the monitor into a goofy spot, usually on the far left side of the case (looking at the backside). I can see where that might confuse you a little bit.

Rereading your post....it sounds like that might be what's going on because you're looking for a place to plug the monitor directly into the motherboard. That's not the way it works. If that's the way your current computer is, BTW, then the case might be proprietary and you might not get any standard sized motherboard in there. What brand is it? If it's a name brand machine you might be looking at buying a new case & power supply.

As far as video cards go...are you into gaming at all? There are a lot of choices out there. Let us know what you'll be doing and we can help you pick something out.

Thanx for the response Slackmaster.
My confusion comes from the fact that, looking at the picture of the motherboard I'm buying(Abit be6-2)I see an
AGP slot(above and slightly to the right of the PCI slots).
Would the AGP card fit in the top expansion bay on the back of my ATX case.I have installed pci cards on my Compaq, but
I've never seen AGP cards before. Please forgive my ignorance,as it makes forming an intelligent question difficult.
As for gaming, this comp is going to be for audio only.I
would prefer to spend as little as I can get away with for a
video card so I can spend more on other things.Thanx...

If you have a STANDARD ATX case, then you're fine, yes. If you're trying to use a case from your Compaq, you're screwed.

Don't worry so much about it. AGP is simply a new technology that provides superior graphics performance. The cards look a little different, the slot is a little different, but they plug in just the same...and from the back of the computer you can't tell whether the cards inside are AGP or PCI or whatever. They all line up so to speak.

Ok, if you're only using this machine for audio, consider an ATI or Matrox video card. Get an AGP card with at least 8MB of memory. Avoid off-brand cards, even if they have recognizable chipsets (e.g. many companies make TNT cards, but only a few of them are of high quality). You'll be looking in the $50 range. I see ATI XPERT 99 AGP 8MB cards for exactly 50 bucks actually.

Oh, and make sure that the card you get has drivers for ALL PC versions of windows....98/ME/NT4/2000...even if you're going to be using 98 or ME. Trust me on this one.
