Hi,,, If anyone has seen my previous post I've been thinking a lot on equipment to record a whole band ,,,, everytime I ask ppl ask me for budget,,,, I think I dont want to spend more than 2500 - 3000,,,

- Soundcraft EMP12 mixer
- Event TR8 monitors
- TC Electronic M350 reverb/delay
- Mogami 2549 100m bulk cable
- Neutrik NC3MXX & NC3FXX XLR Connectors

Think that is all I need to mix,,,,,, except for compressor,,, I havent decide yet,,, but maybe a DBX 1046 or 160A,,, i have to do some research on this,,,,

Here is the second part of my problem,,,

How can I record the mix and then make a mastering?,,, is a totally newbie question,,,, :D what do I need to make it? just a recorder like Fostex CR500 would be fine? or do I need a DAT to do that? or anything else?

I'm planning to record my own band, and when I get some skills record local bands,,,, nothing like a real studio, I wont even charge the bands,,,, I just want to learn how to make recordings,, then If I like it a lot I want to study Recording Arts at the SAE Institute,,,,

Please help me... :( ,,,, If you think that I'm gettin the idea wrong please let me know,,,

The Fostex CR500 seems like it would be usefull for Mixing and Mastering but not for recording, also when recording multiple tracks you generally do NOT want to use a Mixer because it will not allow you to change the levels of individual tracks after recording......

For recording a whole band you will need an Audio interface with at least 8 seperate channels, probably more if you want to record all instruments at the same time....There are several Interfaces that can record 8 or more Tracks at once.....

You also have to consider getting a Bunch of Microphones as they are a very important part of recording and can be very expensive......

Cheers

My first Idea was to get a Mackie Onyx 1640 with the Firewire card on it, then reacord all the tracks in Sonar,,, and do the whole mixdown on it ,, adding effects etc.

Is there any other option to do this? is it better to get a Onyx 400F and go mixerless? using also a mackie control universal?,,,, in that case I would be able to record 10 inputs (like 10 mic) at one time?

I didnt ask for the microphones because I gettin an idea on what to get, and I'm interested on the mixer/recording part now,, :)
