im looking to buy a pre amp, i have 5 microphones that i need to hook up. i have been looking on the net but theres loads of choices out there can anyone give me advice on what would be good. the mics are going into an M Audio Delta 1010

Your going to need a multi channel pre. They start around $500 I think.

no he could get one for 90 bucks or so...it would blow but he could do it...thats why i asked for a budget and what he's doing it for

five microphones eh... well preamps seem to come as 1,2 or 8 inputs (generally) so an 8 input would probably suit you good. I would suggest the m-audio octane, or, if you can afford it, the mackie onyx 800r.

now that i think of it, you could always get a mixer (probably for less) and use its inputs/outputs to amplify a mic. yamaha is a good choice. soundcraft makes a good mixer as well.

I've been using a Soundcraft Spirit E12 mixer as my 12 channel pre for about two years now and get great sound out of it. And I got it sub-$500.

If you want bang for the buck you could do alot worse than a yamaha MG10/2 mixer. that has six mic ins and you'd get headphone monitoring etc.

As has been said though your options will depend on the money you have to spend.
