Hey all, excellent forum here. I'm very thankful I stumbled upon it. I've been a musician for a long, long time...always embedded in the indie/psyche/underground realm of things. I've put out a lot of records but I was never at the controls. I was a "bored...can't be bothered" sort. So, I'm new to the idea of recording myself. I've got a bit of gear but wanted to get input as to what others would add. I'm not broke but it is just for me...so purposely small. Any input appreciated. Here's what I have:

Roland VS-880 expanded
Line 6 pod 2.0
Line 6 delay/looper
Boss looper
decent studio monitors
decent studio amp
various stompboxes
Yamaha digital piano
various guitars

I'm thinking compressor & mic pre. I pretty much write melancholy piano songs or sad, psychedelic stuff. No band, no drums...just voice and piano w/ icing mainly. Thanks.

yeah mic sounds like a good idea ;) , and if you are just using guitar and vocals i a preamp might be good but a good mic would make more of a difference

Thanks guys...but I failed to mention I have a few mics. I'm good for vocals, accoustic guitars etc... thinking more in terms of compressor, mic pre, efx unit.

The best advice I could offer is don't limit yourself by choosing to go too small up front.

Always buy a little bit more than you think you'll need, you'll use it, believe me.
