Advice on Sound

That's really nice. Good performance. My only comment is that I would bring the guitar down just a tad in level when the vocals are up. Probably not throughout - just some fader automation to dip it spots.

You said you've cut the metallic sound of your voice in the soundcloud page. I'd leave it metallic so it would sound as proeminent as the guitar. I think the mix could get some high end to it...like a little high shelf boost in the 10k area. But it sounds nice already, very real and honest.

Thanks a bunch. Im always battling the EQ and just what you said, getting the vocals over certain parts of the instruments. Ive been using compression but now I think i will try automation. Thanks for the advice......

Yes like other said, the vocal needs to come up...very well done. EQ is the biggest of all battle. I stuggle with it as well as I'm sure many others do.

I'm not a big fan of that chimey acoustic guitar sound. Prefer a darker/woody sound. I had to turn it off because of that, especially once the vocal came in b/c there was too much fight...I'd eq out the upper mids. This would take some of the chime out. I think this would help the vocal sit better, too, without all the chimey guitar in its way. You're never going to please everyone, though, so only use feedback as a guide and ultimately do what you think sounds good.

Nice tones, nice vibe, nice playing.

Vocals are a little dark, small and pushed back.

Hard panned backing vocal on the left was a little startling and makes the mix feel unbalanced. Very nice harmonies.

Really good vocal control and timbre. You are very talented and the hard work you have put in is apparent.

Really good job overall.

nice guitar sounds :) just a smidge more top end on the vox and a tiny bit off the bottom,me id pan main vox central with a short verb with predelay ..bung verb on a send and hi/lo pass it

vocals are great,harmonies lovely ...

anyhoo, sounds great as is (bit boomy).. nice work :)

edit:- forgot to say you has talent :)

I thought the guitar sounds were pretty nice. I thought they were out in front of the vocal though.

I'm not sure if this is happening to anyone else, but on my monitoring system, the mix seems to be coming from behind the speakers. Mostly it's the guitar. To an extent, the lead vocal is too. The backing vocals are coming out of the front of the speakers as expected. Not sure if it's from how it was mic'd, or any type of delay processing, polarity inversion, or what.

I like the guitar, too - is it a Taylor? I agree with TripleM that its in front of the vocal. Something doesn't sit right in the mix overall - I noticed the same issues as Triple M - I think the left backup harmony is too loud, and the BU vox need to be compressed and reverb added to them, and reverb taken off the lead vocal (and some 'air' added to it, too), reverb added to the rhythm guitars - the lead guitar sounds way in the back too because its got more reverb.
