Armistice

Son of Yoda
OK - so after using the same computer for 9 years (Pentium 75 / Win 95) the damn thing died and I had to buy a new one.

I've always relied upon my pal Ausrock to make MP3s for me and post them here for comment by sending him CDs of my work in the mail, but now, at long last, I have a PC powerful enough to do it myself.. but...

1. With what? - can someone recommend a good free MP3 making type program and where I can get it (I'm assuming that Windows Media Player won't actually create them...)

2. Where do you host these files? Is there some benevolent server out there in cyberspace that will let me upload my files so that you guys can dis them for me?

Cheers - any advice welcomed.

MP3 newbie..

I use for conversion the really userfriendly and free (!) program dBpowerAmp Music Converter from download.com:

http://www.download.com/dBpowerAmp-Music-Converter/3000-2140_4-10249519.html?tag=lst-1-8

Via right-clicking on the wav-file to be converterd you can select 'convert to..' and this pops up a menue allowing you to select the specifications for conversion (ogg, windows media, mp3 and more, depending on the installed pluggins) and where to put the file. I think it is a real good program, although I've no clue if it is using 'the best' mp3 conversion stuff..
