what do you mean by it's "behind" all other DAW's? not questioning your opinion just want clarity on this, being that as far as recording from home i've only tried

ACID PRO (hated dat shit wit a passion),
Cool Edit Pro (used to be my companion)
and now AA-2 (would marry dat shit if i could get some song placements)

my partner uses Magix Studio or somethin like that with a Neuman mic and i think a DBX channel strip and the finished product comes out crisp on CD for us to not be pro-engineers or rockin with any high-end equiptment.

Well, I said that because it just lacks features (the ones that will be shipped with 3.0) that most other DAWs have. Mainly MIDI and VSTi support.

I'm not sure if Cool Edit/Audition was ever meant to be a MIDI program to begin with, so if that's the case, then it's understandable.

As far as built-in plugins, I think even Audition 1.5 was way ahead of some others, especially their "scientific filters". It's really powerful software. It was just frustrating not having MIDI/VSTi support when that's all it needed to make it perfect.

I was kind of disappointed when 2.0 came out and had other stuff I didn't even want, and a few changes that just messed up my work flow, but didn't come with the 2 most important features.

understandable for the work you use it for.....

see i'm not a musician instrumentally-speaking, i just rap, so i would just use it for recording vocals to already mixed instrumentals, which can be a hassle mixing at times being that the instrumentals are usually mp3 formatted where as i record in a mono wav-format....

i do agree the plug-ins were a treat to use, but i have about 3 or 4 different Waves Bundle packs, an Antares pack with like everything from their Avox to their mic modeler (for when i was usin a shitty dynamic $50 mic), i got the Izotope Ozone jump-off (4got which version), i got the Vintage Warmer, pretty much my AA-2 can operate like an efficient low-budget studio with all the stuff i got incorperated into it.....so other than ease of functions, i'm pretty much set, i just gotta learn and understand the use of all the tools i have to make my overall projects sonically better....

AA is just as capable of great recordings as other software and comes with great plugins. Just if you ever want to use MIDI then you're out of luck (until 3.0 I guess).

If you're just recording vocals/audio with no MIDI involved, it's the perfect program.

I understand what you're saying, but there's something kind of funny in this situation: because Cool Edit and early Audition never had MIDI and VSTi support, I just got on with the job without them, so I never missed having them. I've learned to record and mix without those tools, so when I get them in 3.0, I won't know what to do with them. I'll be asking questions. :D

I used(and still do) AA for a looooong time and it is a GREAT program. But because I wanted MIDI and VSTi support, I switched to Sonar6pe and haven't regretted it.

HOWEVER, AA still is the best stereo editor I have used and the noise reduction is 2nd to none. So....it's still sitting on my machine for that.

Multitracking and mixing...Sonar kicks AA in the back side. It seems AA will get its' feet wet with MIDI this time around, and it will be interesting to see.

lmaooo, not trying to turn this into DAW War 3, but now why does Sonar kick AA in the ass as far as mixing and multi-tracking??

just curious, i'm fairly new to recording from home, as i've once always had the luxury of going to a more advanced studio (until it burned down, probably karma from overpriced sessions) but aside from MIDI and VST's, whats the significant differences in the two workstations...

Yeah, I want to hear this, too.

C'mon, Mix... you promised. :D

I've always used Adobe Audition since it was the first software I used. I'm used to it, and am pretty familiar with it, so its what I used.

The new features in AA 3.0 look great. Especially the phase correction.

yeah pretty much the same thing here, i tried Acid and hated that shit.....then i got AA and never looked back, i still use some of the Acid plug-ins though........ i really don't need em, i got like 3,4,5 different waves bundle packs, plus T-Racks and some BBE and Antares stuff to mess with, so i'm set as far as plug-ins unless someone has a Mercury Bundle from Waves, cause i wanna see what that Avalon plug-in is about in comparison to the actual Avalon box, but other than that, my DAW is ready for the long haul, i just need to better my technique in using everything it's capable of doing...

I went from CEP 2.0 to AA1.5 and I loved 1.5 for a long time... .but then I need the Midi and VSTi capabilities :( ... I switched to Sonar 6 PE,... and that was a huge learning curve...especially for an old fart like me ... I loved the midi and VSTi stuff in Sonar,..but I still mastered everything in AA1.5..... I'm hoping that AA3.0 will be the end all to all of my troubles and needs ....We'll see....

Side note - I did notice a difference in actual track sound/tone when switching between AA1.5 and Sonar .... AA seemed a bit brighter and crisper (Not necisarily in a good way...), where Sonar seemed much "smoother" and warmer sounding ....Just my take on it...
