I am trying to learn how to record a radio broadcast using adobe audition 1.0 - the radio station (shortwave) needs my recording to be "mono" - not stereo. So I see a place within the settings where it says 16 bit - 32 bit - mono etc.... is this where I choose "mono" to make a mono recording? Do I choose this before I record?

Also - I have an intro and exit music wav clip for the broadcast but it's in stereo - how can I make this music clip "mono"? Can you give me some good step by step instructions? I pray this is possible. Otherwise I'm not sure what to do.

Any help is really appreciated - I'm just a beginner. :-)

If you arm / select just the track/input you will be recording, then it will automatically record in mono.

i.e. if you select or arm input 2, then it will record just a mono track of what is coming in on input 2. If, on the other hand, you arm both 1 and 2, then it will be recorded as a stereo track -- with track one being the left channel and track 2 on the right.

If you want to convert a stereo track to mono, then open it up in Audition . . . then select edit > mixdown > "all waves mono."

Question about mono

Thank you so much for your reply. Forgive my ignorance, but I'm just a beginner - what does arm mean? :-) Can you tell me step by step on how to do this......

You said: If you arm / select just the track/input you will be recording, then it will automatically record in mono. HOW DO I SELECT JUST THE TRACK I WILL BE RECORDING.....

i.e. if you select or arm input 2, then it will record just a mono track of what is coming in on input 2. If, on the other hand, you arm both 1 and 2, then it will be recorded as a stereo track -- with track one being the left channel and track 2 on the right.

HOW DO I SELECT OR ARM INPUT 2 TO RECORD JUST A MONO TRACK OF WHAT IS COMING THROUGH INPUT 2?

If you want to convert a stereo track to mono, then open it up in Audition . . . then select edit > mixdown > "all waves mono."

I WILL TRY THIS.....

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

If you open Audition, on the left-hand side, you see your tracks or channels, stacked vertically. On any given channel, you should see a grey button that says "Rec" followed by a number. i.e. Rec 1 or Rec 2, etc.

In order to arm one of these channels to record, click that Rec button.

You'll now see a list of available channels that you can record from (this should correspond to the inputs you've got on your sound card; for example "echo mia ch. 1and2" or "Delta 1010 ch.7and8" and so on.

Select the channel that corresponds with where your audio will be coming in through your sound card. If you've only got a one or two input (stereo) card, then this should be very easy, as there should only be one option. For those with multiple inputs on their sound cards, this just tells the program which channel to record from (or which channel will be receiving the audio).

Now click the little red "R" button (to the left of the "S" and "M" buttons).

The track is now "armed" to record.

Mono

Thank you for the reply. I will check this out this weekend and see how we do. :-))))
