All you have is now
Ok Ok I know I asked about the c1 and it certainly seemed like the mic of choice
for the econo awesome condenser.

The jerk that was supposd to sell me the used for $125 flaked so I didn't get it.
The best I could do online or e-bay was $199 so I lurked around Craigslist and E-bay and started watching..
That's when I stumbled onto the ADk mics and the MXL mics which really muddy up the decision.

Anyway I bid on an ADK A-51 ST Pro (not the ADK A-51) and won the dude for
$235 with a pop stopper and shipping ..

Haven't got it yet but would be interested in opinions on ADK in general as opposed to Studio Projects and the C-1 in relation the A-51 ST...

The specs read quite similar ..but then that black and white on paper...

What happens in the real world stays in the real world and can't really be transcribed in ink...least that's what I think..

e.g. describe red to a blind person..

Opinions please...

Thanks,

TAE

Well......

I called ADK

The owner "Larry Villella" answered the phone... He seems like an awesome character and spent quite a bit of time with a nobody explaining what I had, how he came about developing it..Their philosophy and what they have coming up...

2 thumbs up and then some to Larry and ADK..
If this baby is half as good as he says it is..I am going to be one happy camper..

I'll let you know when I start working it out.

I have the ST but never heard the C1, so I'll use the AT4047 as a possible point of ref. If the 4047 is up a bit and thicker in the low mids and softer on top, the ST is a bit more of a 'smile' conture. (But neither seem to be overly hyped to me and can work fine in a lot of contexts.) The multi-pattern on the ST gives it nice variations too.
The differences show up especailly well in front of a kit; 47' beefy', ST more 'Hi-Fi' sparkle.
Nice price too. I paid 350 new which was good at the time, and no regrets at all.
Enjoy. :)

I asked him what he thought of the C-1

He said it was one of the bigger mistake in judgement he's ever made..he had the chance to distribute them in 1999 and passed..he wasn't really impressed with it and felt it really wasn't what he was going after.... something chasing the older German nueman u87's.

He had no idea it was going to be such a big hit...

Though of course he's biased he feels the 51 St is a far superior mic overall and a steal at what they are being liquidated out for.

As mentioned I picked mine up on E-bay yesterday new with a popper stopper for $235 delivered

I don't have that particular model of ADK but I do have a matched pair of ADK Hamburgs. I use them on acoustic guitar and the result is the F-A-T-E-S-T tone I've ever found recording acoustic guitar. They are also excellent vocal mics. If you get close to that out of the A-51st then you will be a very happy man. If you want a link to hear one of the songs I recroded with the Hamburgs just PM me. I think you will be satisified with your new ADK. Please post your thoughts when you put it through the paces.

Hey LJmax

When I was Talking to Larry, he said that of the new edtions (the A-51 st is being discontinued) the Hamburg is the closest mic to the a-51 st..the only difference is the St is tri- polar.

It will definitely be a few weeks before I get to work with this as I'm heading out of the country to Prague till the 4th...
When I get back I'll run it through the hoops and give my opinion..

Thanks for yours!

I can't speak for what Larry said to you as I was not there during the conversation you had with him. Larry never had the chance to distribute my microphones as I already had PMI Audio operational for Joemeek for some four plus years. I did not then, or ever need outside distribution, nor did I ever consider any as I wanted Studio Projects to sell side by side with Joemeek.

If Larry had a chance then he would have to come to me to get it, and that never happened. So maybe you misunderstood what he was telling you.... :)

Well well well..I came upon this thread searching for another post and it's 7 years later and I am a whole lot more familiar with how things in China work so.....Alan. When you buy things from China, unless you have a patent or agreement on them with the manufacturer anybody can buy and distribute a "product".

What I suspect..and maybe I'm wrong is it went something like this.. Larry saw the C1 being shown by the Chinese manufacturer at the same Trade show you saw the C1 being shown..He wasn't impressed and you were. You locked in a deal with the factory and Larry had regrets years later when the C1 was popular..Larry Definitely told me he had the opportunity to sell them, passed on it and regretted it.
