Hey guys, I'm a total novice when it comes to home recording. I just bought a Blue Yeti USB mic for podcasts I will be doing through google hangouts. What I hope to do is find some sort of software that will allow me to add a compressor, maybe a noise gate, some reverb if I wanted (as a guitar player I love lexicon's reverbs), etc etc. But the catch is I want to be able to run these effects live from my mic, to the effects software, then out to google hangouts or any other video chat program like skype, spreecast, ustream, etc.

I've looked and looked but every software I find either only lets you add effects to a prerecorded wave file or the "podcast" software I've downloaded only has lame effects like dogs barking, hands clapping, and other radio effects. I simply want a relatively easy to use software app that I can open whenever I am about to start a video chat and it can load a preset of effects.

I'm also on a window's computer so I can't use any mac stuff. Suggestions? My budget is about $300 and if multiple users can use the same license that would be great since I'm in an office with multiple people who will be on the podcasts with me.

Hey Boulder, thanks for the reply.

I'm not familiar with Reaper but I do subscribe to the entire Adobe CC suite which includes Audition (used to be cool edit pro back in the day). Do you know if this would work or does Reaper offer a live effects processor that isn't included in other DAWs like Audition?

The lack of info on this sort of thing makes me think there could a be a huge market for one of these companies to product a simple "podcast" app that makes this all very easy from a user's perspective. I'm pretty tech savvy when it comes to video, photos, and computers but I haven't taken the dive into the audio effects/recording world yet.

I have no idea if Audition can do this, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did.

Tim, I just downloaded the software but it's a bit too confusing for me to tackle right this minute. If you are able to help me, I could pay you for your time. Just want to get this up and running. 843.754.02fivefor if interested

It's pretty heavy software for your application, but you'll get it. You'll need to create a track, select an input source (what your mic is plugged into), apply effects and route to an output (perhaps using Jack to get the signal to your podcasting software). That should get you started.
