Hey fellas and fellettes,

I just set up an AT3035 Mic running into a Presonus BlueTube Preamp and that goes to my M-Audio delta 44 sound card. My question is this...where do I put any effects? I wan't to add reverb and delay to the vocals but I haven't the slightest clue how to.

I'm a guitar player, I know how to do it on guitar effex loops, but this is new to me.

Thanks guys!

The easiest way is to add them in your software when you're mixing your tracks. If your software supports VST effects (most do), you will have plenty of options to choose from. Check here for some good free effects to play with.

How do you use these things? THey look cool, but they seem to lack n00b friendly documentation.

Depending on your aplication, they are in a folder, and when you have a track you wish to apply them to, you can open them up....They are called vst, usually. Most look similar to a hardware unit, giving you knobs and sliders to adjust. They do seem to lack good documentation, so alot of what you do is going to be trial and error. You just have to play with them a bit.

What recording software are you using? In Cubase, you simply install them in the VST effect folder and then they appear as effects within the software.

In general, time/space effects (such as reverbs, delays, and choruses) should be used as Send Effects (if your software supports send effects) and gain effects (compression, distortion) are used as Insert Effects.

As for what the various parameters of each effect do, you can read about effects here. The Kjaerhus Classic Series effects have some pretty decent presets to try out, and you can tweak the parameters from there.

would my daw support these vst's?

im using cool edit pro 2.1, are these effect modules supported with cool edit, and do i even need them? I've been hearing that cool edit has very cool and professional sounding compression presets, as well as chorus and delay. I definitely dont wanna' waste any time with the trial and error process if its not gonna' benefit me in any sorta' way, Y'know?

Then why not try the effects in cool edit....if that doesn't waste too much of your time
